Sad and last day of yumi piksa team

We all were interviewed about what we think of the workshop and how it changed us and what we’ll do with the knowledge acquired from the workshop. We all enjoyed the workshop but it came to an end. We end the day with a lunch at the Stake House. We’ll miss our facilitator, Miss Verena Thomas. Thanks Verena, you best.

THE LAUNCH !!!

We were working until the last minute to get the films and all the materials to present on the night ready. We practiced our talks at the base and then went to set up at the MSA.

It was an overwhelmingly successful night ! We did it ! Thanks to the whole YUMI PIKSA team.

Last day before the Premiere Screen

Two feed back sessions in one day. How do we top this and continue working into the evening. We are into the home stretch now, we had the morning session with Ataizo at Massy. Papa Ataizo and his family were very happy with the cut and mentioned that it was okay. He also gave the title of the film LEVEKUKA CLAY.

This is it!!! This is the rush till the end. Today we worked all day either planning for the launching or tidying up loose ends in editing. This is no easy feat, we all need a good rest after this and to let our hair down. Nah, too early to mention.

First Feedback session

We had the first feedback today at the down under settlement with Mama Lucindo and her family. Mama Lucindo agreed with the cut of the film and gave her blessings for it to go ahead. Question: Are we doing justice to her when she agrees so easily???. I somehow feel that more than an okay would have been better, maybe a few negative comments would help to compare our view on her and the location. However, we were able to eat sausages given the fact that sausages are not eaten regularly by Mama Lucindo and her family.

Working on the Final Production

We spend the morning editing and the afternoon we are back in the communities for final shoots for the final production. Yumi Piksa team is working towards finishing 3 productions. Every day is another story, more ideas and many more. We are getting there. Thanks Team.

more okiufa/arthur down under

George Sari is one of the main characters who is participating in Yumi Piksa Film Production. His story is titled “Nokondi’s Morning Call”. In the morning we went to his community for more establishing shoots. Later during the day Arthur went to Down Under for more establishing shoots as well for Lucindo’s story “Down Under.”

Some more close up shots and landscapes. Its hard to catch the subjects when they are constantly on the move trying to make a living by selling goods at the market and on the streets. All the households were mostly empty as all able working persons are expected to contribute and earn a living. Back at the base editing continues.

Meeting - WE HAVE TO FINISH THE FILMS !

Bonding session in progress. All present participants were given the ultimatum to either perform and deliver a film or face reality and pack it in. First casualty was Franky’s as the subject for his film left for studies at the University of Technology in Lae. This signaled the natural end of his film, but the three production for Down under, Massy and Okiufa must continue and finish.

Shooting at Okiufa

This morning we were shooting at Okiufa. We were trying to get some more shots of the rainforest to complement George’s painting and to show the landscape that he paints. We came pass a celebration where people had killed three pigs to celebrate a girl’s initiation. We took some shots there as well. For the shooting of the rainforest we went up a slippery path to get to a small waterfall. All up we spent 3 hours shooting and we were all exhausted when we got back. It’s the end of a long week and tomorrow, Sunday, we will have a day off.
