I am Michelle “Chico” Baru,  from Papua New Guinea, mixed parentage of Eastern Highlands and North Solomons Province.

I am currently employed by the National Film Institute and am archiving past videos and movies, and as a trainee film maker. I view a lot of Papua New Guinean Films. I am interested in film making because there are a lot of community issues that need to be highlighted.

I attended University of Vudal in East New Britain Province, for two years from 2006 to 2007. Aiyura National High School from 2004 to 2005, and I did my high school at Kainantu High School.

I am very happy to attend this ‘Yumi Piska’ workshop because it gives me the opportunity to learn about film making.  I dream that after the workshop, when the opportunity allows, I will use the knowledge and skills to capture the culture, society and environment of Papua New Guinea.

Also, I want to use the production of videos as a medium of change to enhance the people of Papua New Guinea. I see that most Papua New Guineans are illiterate and thus video as a medium of change can alleviate.
